The two children of a woodcutter are dispatched by the fairy Berylune in search of the Blue Bird who brings happiness. Mityl, a selfish and capricious little girl, leaves, accompanied by her younger brother Tyltyl. Their quest leads them successively to the kingdom of the Past, to the "Luxurious", and into the Future, without result. But a wonderful surprise awaits them in their own home...
